In 2025, we set out to make a documentary about Freshkills Park in Staten Island,

the largest landfill reclamation project on the planet.

After all, it is a nice story, maybe a bit dull…

Along the way, we discovered that the park was a thin layer over the older, stranger story of Fresh Kills Landfill,

and the history of Staten Island.

The landfill itself was just a cover

for a deeper story

about war, 

science, 

frustrated hopes,

and UFOs, 

which pointed to the secret life story of all matter, 

its unexpected awakening on Staten Island, 

and an unthinkably hopeful future

that begins at the dump.

The Demon Core of Fresh Kills won Best Feature Screenplay at the  Fantasy/Sci-Fi Film & Screenplay Festival in Toronto. You can read an essay or an interview about the film or listen to a podcast about the film.

The Demon Core of Fresh Kills is a feature-length film, currently in production, with a release date in May of 2027.
